#IMWAYR ~ Long Weekend Reading

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? From Picture Books to YA!

Jen Vincent of Teach Mentor Texts Kellee Moye, of Unleashing Readers, help share and spread book-love, by hosting this fun meme.

In my library, I've been reading and sharing some of the YMA award winning books.

Geisel Honor Medal

While reading Supertruck
  • "He's like Supermann!"
    (in an awed whisper)
  • "Garbage trucks are important."
  • "Supertruck saved the day!"
  • "If there weren't garbage trucks, it would really stink."
  •  "I bet that's Supertruck!" (student noticing headlights of a mystery vehicle when going back to look at illustrations again).
I love Salina Yoon's artwork so much that I ordered two prints from her website!  She is so kind and generous ~ she also sent me some other beautiful treasures!  Thank you Salina!

I've also had the pleasure of reading Salina Yoon's Be A Friend to every class, kindergarten through 5th grade. I love sharing great books with both kids and adults ~ to close my Literacy Committee meeting, I also read Be A Friend to my colleagues. What a great way to end our meeting. I loved the great discussions and comments from those that I shared books with this week! They touched my heart and made my days most enjoyable!

This week, I've also finished reading, The Penderwicks in Spring by Jeanne Birdsall

I wish that the Penderwicks were my neighbors!  I'd love to have them stop by and visit my porch!

Later this week, I'll be presenting for my local Reading Council.  I'll be booktalking the books that are on the primary, intermediate, middle, and high school ballots for the New York State Reading Association's Charlotte Book Awards.  I will also be sharing ways that teachers and librarians can get kids involved with the voting process.  So, my reading plans for this week include rereading the book selections on the ballots.

Here is a link to the ballots.
 Enjoy your reading week!

  1. I have yet to get my hands on Be a Friend. The artwork does look gorgeous. I like the idea of ending a meeting with a great book. That is definitely a way to end on a positive note.
